The Amsterdam Zuidoost Food Forest (also known as VBAZO) is a 55-hectare ecological zone in the south-east of Amsterdam. Since 2018, more than 70 locals have become the VBAZO Community of Praxis, working in collaboration with the municipality to transform the area. As a Community of Praxis, they design and add food forest layers to the already planted urban greens. They maintain contact and collaborate with several municipal departments. This video describes the web of relations necessary to replace Amsterdam’s standard green maintenance regime with one supportive of the more-than-humans of the food forest. Photos of the changing Amsterdam Zuidoost landscape and Solomon/Urbaniahoeve’s mature food forest ecosystem provide a view into city as an ever-evolving urban food forest.
